Event Post: Dior and I Media Screening

Two weeks ago, I had the privilege to attend the Dior and I exclusive private media screening by Dior. We first had some canapés and champagne for breakfast (I know, super fancy innit?! ;)) in the Dior boutique at Star Hill Gallery,  before ajourning to the screening salon (usually an exhibition space, it was transformed into a private cinema with lush black velvet curtains), as we sat back and watched the film on comfy leather sofas.

Written and directed by Frédéric Tscheng, Dior and I is a documentary-styled full length feature film that gives us a behind-the-scenes look as we follow Raf Simons, Dior’s then newly appointed Creative Director, as he prepares for his first ever collection for Maison Christian Dior in just 6 weeks. As a designer who has only ever designed Ready-to-Wear, we see Simons crack under pressure just before his 2012 Dior Haute Couture debut. But Simons proves himself worthy as he emerges victorious, thanks to his vision that fused modernity, art, and the inspiration that came from delving into the Dior archives. The audience gave him a standing ovation when he took his post-show bow. What a tremendous feat it was, to put an entire collection together in 6 weeks, without any prior experience in Haute Couture! The film ends with his fellow designer friends Diane von Furstenberg, Alber Elbaz, and Marc Jacobs, amongst many others, who came to congratulate him backstage after the show.

A very heartfelt Thank You to the Dior team for extending an invitation to me for this private screening!
