Watches Wednesday: Zenith Launches First Defy Extreme In Carbon Fibre
For 2022 LVMH Watch Week, Zenith – which currently holds the record for the world’s fastest and most precise automatic chronograph movement – has introduced its first ever DEFY Extreme model in Carbon Fibre inspired by another world’s first: the off-road electric rally racing championship, of which it is the Official Timekeeper and Founding Partner.
Carbon Fibre is a material known for its light weight and durability, and commonly used in the motorsport, automotive, and aviation industries. For this ultra-sporty DEFY Extreme timepiece, the case, pushers and crown are crafted in layered carbon fibre, while the pusher protectors and the 12-sided bezel are made from micro blasted titanium, which is, again, another ultra lightweight and incredibly resilient metal.
The openworked skeleton multi-layered dial features the 1/100th of a second chronograph scale’s bright yellow markers, the chronograph’ s bright blue. green and white tinted sapphire crystal dial’s markers with matching-coloured small hands, are a tribute to the EXTREME E’s “X Prix” colour schemes adopted for each race. Flip the watch over and you’d have a peek at the fastest automatic high-frequency chronograph calibre that’s partially visible.
Each DEFY Extreme Carbon Fibre comes with 3 straps (a black textured rubber strap with microblasted titanium folding buckle, a red textured rubber strap, and a black Velcro strap with a carbon fibre buckle) which may be changed on your own with ease, thanks to the quick strap-change mechanism.
