Watches Wednesday: Roger Dubuis SIHH 2019 Excalibur Huracan Series

Last week, we had the privilege of attending the Roger Dubuis SIHH 2019 preview, where we had the opportunity to see the  new SIHH 2019 novelties up close. For this year’s annual watches trade show, Roger Dubuis once again collaborated with Lamborghini to bring us the Excalibur Huracán, named after a model by the Italian supercar manufacturer.

Roger Dubuis SIHH 2019 Excalibur Huracan Pink Gold

A partnership in the truest sense of the word, this luxury timepiece reflects the aesthetic codes of the Huracán, particularly its iconic hexagonal signature (where the “X” is), and the honeycomb-like grate, reminiscent of the backs of Lamborghini Huracán cars. The architecture of the watch’s highly complex skeleton movement was made possible by the Manufacture’s ability to construct this out-of-the-box skeleton calibre visible through its titanium sapphire crystal case back. The RD 630 calibre comes with a 12 degree angled balance wheel, which is, once again, a tribute to the movement signature associated with the Lamborghini Squadra Corse. The 360 degree oscillating weight, too was inspired by the Huracán’s rims, thus recalling the wheels of the supercar in motion. The upper calibre also features a strut-bar designed bridge which you’d recognise, on the V10 engine, which the supercar is powered by.

Secured with a suede-like texture strap, this 45mm Excalibur Huracán timepiece is without question, comes with 18k pink gold accents. Not a fan? A Titanium DLC (a highly durable “Diamond Like Carbon” coating) in electric blue, and all-grey Titanium versions are also available.

Roger Dubuis SIHH 2019 Excalibur Huracan Performante Limited Edition

An variation of the Excalibur Huracán, is the Limited Edition Excalibur Hurácan Performante which is not just a collaboration between Lamborghini and Roger Dubuis, but also the renowned motorsports tyre manufacture, Pirelli. So, essentially, it’s Lamborghini x Roger Dubuis x Pirelli partnership. The difference between this version and the one above, is the incorporation of a rubber inlay featuring the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo™ R-tyre pattern – a custom-made tyre made specifically for on-track racing – on the bi-material strap with a black rubber base, grey Alcantara ® inlay and black stitching.  And since it’s still a watch from the Huracán series, it’s also powered by the same RD630 calibre with an automatic 12 degree balance. The 45mm Excalibur Huracán Performante comes in Titanium with yellow metallised accents and grey tech coating (limited to 88 pieces globally), as well as a Titanium DLC, with red metallised accents.

Between the two, my favourite would definitely be the Excalibur Huracán with 18k pink gold accents shown above, because there’s just something about the pink gold bits that make the watch more luxe, don’t you think? But then again, the brighter hues exude a sportier kinda feel. I guess it really depends on the type of look you’re going for 😉
