Watches Wednesday: Roger Dubuis Limited Edition Knights of the Round Table Collection
Roger Dubuis interprets and recreates the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table on the dial of their new Limited Edition timepiece. The result? An amazing never before seen feat, where the three-dimensional 12 knights crafted in 18k pink gold, function as hour markers on the black textured dial made from Murano glass, which symbolises the fractured ground
With meticulous attention to detail, this art micro sculptures of the three-dimensional knights complete with medieval armour, plates, shield, helmet, and customised weapons took a year and a half to master, and is thus a showcasing of the painstaking craftsmanship and effort that went into the creation of this marvellous timepiece. The intricacies on these micro knights are further enhanced with the new transparent sapphire crystal ring under the bezel, providing a full view of their facets that’s visible only available to the wearer. Each of these elaborate micro-sculptures had to be manually assembled by hand, and is a testament to their métiers d’art credentials. Like the “fractured black ground” at the centre of the dial, the transparent blood red flange against which the warriors stand, is also created with Murano glass – all of which are framed within the watch’s 45mm 18k pink gold case. On the case’s exterior, the crown and its protector are intentionally shaped like the guard of a sword, designed to appear as if a blade is stuck inside the watch, just like the Excalibur sword that Arthur pulled out of a stone, which led to his crowning as King.
Powered by the automatic Monobalancier RD821 calibre, the oscillating weight is visible on the back of the case, and in this instance, was completely redesigned with a circular finish comprising 2 woven layers of tilted pyramid shapes that create the appearance of castle-stained glass. You’d also find the famous oath that all the knights had to take, engraved around the display: “Around this tale, the bravest knights will gather as equals. They will set forth in search of adventure, righting wrongs, protecting the weak and humbling the proud.”
This 28-piece Limited Edition Knights of the Round Table watch is then finished off with a black calf leather strap with a Quick Release System, which. allows you to change the strap with ease, on your own.
