Watches Wednesday: Piaget’s Year of the Tiger Limited Edition Altiplano
It’s that time of year again, and just like clockwork, for the 10th year running, Piaget has unveiled the new Limited Edition Year of the Tiger Altiplano for the upcoming Lunar New Year. This wild animal, known as the “King of the Jungle” in Chinese culture, is associated with power, dignity, and fortune. Chinese folklore characterises those born under this Zodiac sign as ambitious, confident, courageous, just, intelligent, powerful, noble, wealthy, and authoritative. They also possesses charm, which only those close to them, are privy to.
Just like the others that came before it, this Tiger Altiplano features the majestic feline in cloisonné grand feu enamel. Crafted by Master Enameller Anita Porchet (who has been working together with the Maison since 2006), the design is first transferred onto the surface of the dial by utilising gold ribbons to create miniature cloisons (partitions), in which the different enamel pigments are placed. Once completed, the dial is then fired in the kiln multiple times at 8200 and 8500 degrees Celsius for the varnishing process, and then housed in a 38mm 18k white gold case set with 78 brilliant-cut diamonds. Powered with Piaget’s Altiplano signature ultra-thin manual winding 430P in-house movement, only 38 pieces of this magnificent Limited Edition timepiece are available.
