Watches Wednesday: Piaget’s Fully Paved Polo Skeleton

One of Piaget‘s highlights of this year’s Watches and Wonders, is the fully paved Polo Skeleton. With this new Polo Skeleton, the everyday Polo watch has been dressed up, into an eye-catching beauty that’s fit for formal occasions with its 42mm white gold case set with 268 brilliant-cut diamonds (totalling 2.43 carats) and a matching white gold polished and satin-finished ‘H’ design integrated bracelet with 1478 brilliant-cut diamonds (approximately 10.04 carats total) with a folding clasp, and a reverse diamond crown.

Yet, despite it being all glitzed and glammed up, that still doesn’t take away the attention from the beating heart of the watch: the slate grey, ultra -thin 2.4mm self-winding mechanical 120oSI skeletonised movement which removes all unnecessary metal and leaves only the essential parts which not only provides precision, but also increased resistance to magnetic fields. Just like its predecessors (the 1200S and 1200P), this 1200SI also has an off-centred oscillating weight at 8 o’clock, allowing a maximum amount of light into the movement through 2 sapphire crystals, front and back.

Oftentimes, when we have a fully blinged out watch, the diamonds snatches the spotlight, but with the Polo Skeleton, our eyes immediately go to its sexy skeletonised movement, which is indeed, and remains, the watch’s focal point. In essence, this is the epitome of the union of the worlds of high jewellery and fine watchmaking, both of which, are Piaget’s forte.
