Watches Wednesday: New Van Cleef & Arpels “Sweet Alhambra” Timepieces for 2019
Introduced in 1968, the Alhambra motif, featuring a 4-leaf clover has been so integral to Van Cleef & Arpels that it has become part of its DNA. The Sweet Alhambra, a variation of the original Vintage Alhambra collection, comes with smaller, daintier motifs and dials on its timepieces. This year, 5 new models will be introduced into this collection, and for the first time ever, these watches offer interchangeable leather bracelets.
Drawing inspiration from its jewellery collections, the casing takes the shape of the Alhambra, with two rose of gold beads. two of which come with iridescent white mother-of-pearl dials, and another, in black onyx; all of which, come with an alligator strap.
The other two models are more precious, with a fully diamond-pavéd dial. Look closely and you’d notice that the smaller stones are set at the centre, with the diamonds getting increasing in size as they move outwards from the middle to “meet” with the diamonds set in a seri neige-style pavé style on the outer contour of the casing. If you prefer something in gold, there’s also a version with yellow gold guilloché dial, reminiscent of sunbeams that create a reflective effect, especially when it catches the light.
For the first time ever, VCA has added interchangeable bracelets in colours such as fuchsia, white, black, bordeaux, pink, or blue, and blue jean. You have a choice of selecting the colour that you want, because each timepiece comes with a second bracelet. Simply pop them out with a gentle push of the finger, and switch it with a different coloured one, for variation.
The Sweet Alhambra is both a timepiece and a piece of jewellery at once. Elegant, dainty, and feminine, shoes the perfect day-to-night companion for your wrist.
