Watches Wednesday: Bell & Ross Launches BR V2-94 R.S.18
Although Bell & Ross is probably best known for its ties to aviation, it has, for a long time, also enjoyed a partnership with motorsports. As the official partner of the Renault Sport Formula One™ Team, Bell & Ross commemorates the reopening of the French Grand Prix with its first presentation of a Vintage model, the BR V2-94 R.S.18 with a black rubber strap that’s stamped with France’s tricolore flag during the French Grand Prix.
This timepiece comes with a satin-finished steel case, and a black and yellow carbon fibre dial; elements of which are quintessential to Formula One. Being a motorsport fan myself – I used to follow the Formula One races religiously, and even went to some of the races for a few consecutive years during its KL leg in Sepang (surprised?) – the Formula One references immediately jumped out at me. Yellow and black are the official colours of the Renault Sport Formula One Team, and carbon fibre is a material that’s heavily utilised in F1 racing; in fact, this is what gives F1 cars its structural weight.
The BR V2-94 R.S.18 watch comes with a yellow internal minute track and two counters, with one in red for the chronograph function. Equipped with a tachymeter scale on its bezel, this feature allows the speed of the car to be calculated instantly, over a given distance. In terms of typography, the numerals, too, are reminiscent of those used by the Renault Sport Formula One Team. This mechanical calibre with automatic winding also has a sapphire case-back with a metallised depiction of the Renault car along with its serial number.
Choose between a bracelet satin-finished polished steel strap (MYR 24,100), or the sportier micro-perforated calfskin strap with carbon fibre effect and yellow lining on its underside (MYR 22,700) only 999 pieces of this Limited Edition watch are available globally.
