Watches Wednesday: Bell & Ross BR03-92 Red Radar Ceramic Limited Edition
After the launch of the Bell & Ross BR01 Red Radar a decade ago, the watch is back! This time around, the BR 03-92 Red Radar is reincarnated in Ceramic, and is a unique reinterpretation of the original. The 42mm timepiece with a scratch-resistant ceramic case revisits its aeronautical history and heritage, with a dial that’s reminiscent of an aircraft control radar, complete with screen-printed airplane symbols – the kind you’d see on flightpath maps, except in scarlet, thanks to the red sapphire crystal.
To tell the time, you’d look to the 2 concentric rotating discs combined with the analogue hand. The hour scale is screen-printed on inside (i.e. back) of the sapphire crystal and hence is protected from impact and abrasion to ensure that its precision would not be affected by friction. While it may sound as if it’s seemingly complex to figure out how to read the time, it isn’t, really. The passenger plane on the outermost disc indicates the hours, while the fighter plane on the smaller disc near the centre indicates the minutes, while the analogue central hand denotes the seconds. And this isn’t something random either, but something very well thought out, because in reality, fighter planes travel much faster than passenger planes, and therefore has been assigned to serve as the minutes “hand” rather than the hour. Hand-tuned to the nearest micron, is finished off with a black rubber strap, and ultra-resilient black synthetic fabric.
This BR 03-92 Red Radar Ceramic Limited Edition of 999 pieces retails at MYR 16,999 with complimentary shipping nationwide.
