Watches Wednesday: Audemars Piguet’s Carolina Bucci Limited Edition Royal Oak Selfwinding in Black Ceramic
Audemars Piguet has once again collaborated with Italian jewellery designer Carolina Bucci on another Limited Edition piece: the unisex 34mm Royal Oak Selfwinding in black ceramic to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of this iconic timepiece.
The highlight of this edition is the multicoloured iridescent effect, which is only visible when the Tapisserie dial catches the light, crafted with the addition of a sapphire plate adorned with little squares achieved through micro-structuring that’s added on top of the brass dial plate. A golden metallisation, developed specifically for this, is also applied onto the back of the sapphire plate to create the mirror effect that shines light onto the dial. What’s more, no 2 pieces are the same, because the opalescent colours vary from dial to dial. Call it the glass prism effect, if you will.
I wanted to place a rainbow in the most unexpected of places, a little like when you see oil floating on a puddle in a city street … So here you have every colour on the spectrum on a canvas that is completely black, which is itself the absence of colour ~ Carolina Bucci ~
To complement the surprise rainbow Tapisserie dial, the satin-finished black ceramic dial and bracelet, you’d find small pops of colour, courtesy of the hexagonal pink gold screws on the bezel and crown, and 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight with micro bead-blasted polished and satin finishing visible the back of the watch . “Limited Edition Carolina Bucci” is also inscribed onto its titanium and sapphire caseback, with the Selfwinding 5800 calibre visible beneath.
The Carolina Bucci 34mm Royal Oak Selfwinding Black Ceramic is a Limited Edition of 300 pieces.
