Watches Wednesday: Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked Diamond Paved
Following its white gold version released in 2020, this year, Audemars Piguet has debuted the new Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked timepiece in 18 karat pink gold, set with 436 baguette-cut diamonds on the case, bracelet, and bezel. Utilising techniques such as the invisible setting that is often used in Haute Joaillerie, the diamonds are individually cut and polished, and then snapped onto a hidden rail mounted in the gold case and the bracelet’s links and connecting studs.
Fitted with the Selfwinding Calibre 3132 with a 22 karat double pink gold double balance wheel mechanism, with its 2 hairsprings assembled onto the same axis is an Audemars Piguet patented creation that was first launched in 2016. Visible on both sides of the case, the openworked movement and bridges have been the Manufacture’s specialty since the 1930s. Oh, and guess what, the meticulous attention to detail does not stop at the double balance wheel: the hour markers on this 41mm timepiece are also adorned with 11 pink gold-toned baguette-cut sapphires, that perfectly match the pink gold on the watch.
The Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked in pink gold will be available globally at select Audemars Piguet boutiques from next month (October) onwards.
