Toosday Shoesday: Salvatore Ferragamo Debuts New Signature Heel

Salvatore Ferragamo has introduced a new signature block heel for Fall/Winter 19 known as Refracted. Designed by Creative Director Paul Andrew, this new heel style, constructed from ultralight plastic coated with a high-tensile galvanised metallic shell,  is offered in 3 different heights: 1cm, 5.5cm, and 8cm.  As its namesake suggests, the Refracted heel is made up of three-dimensional laser-carved irregular triangular facets, thus allowing for the the fascinating refraction of light  bouncing off it, which makes for a rather tantalising effect, don’t you think?

The Refracted collection comes in 5 different shoe styles, including Mary-Janes, ankle strap heel sandals, and pointed-toe boots in suede, kappa, patent leather, and silk satin with crystal embroideries.

The Refracted follows the Flower heel, which was itself based on the revolutionaryy 1939 Column heel designed by Salvatore Ferragamo. With this design I wanted to propose a reflection of the world around us in 2019. The heel is designed to showcase the beauty of irregularity and variousness – a core element of the Patchwork of Characters philosophy that has be guiding our design team for several seasons now – by allowing for the play of light and surface in apparently random manner. Every time you look at the Refracted heel it will appear different. This is not its flaw, but its power ~ Paul Andrew ~
