Toosday Shoesday: Puma x Sophia Webster Sneaker
We all know about Alexander Wang’s ongoing collab with adidas, and Rihanna with Puma. But here’s another designer collab that’s slightly under the radar, with one of my favourite shoe designers ever: Sophia Webster.
Webster is known for her colourful footwear brand, with quirky shoes bearing tropical floral and fruit motifs (I’m still bummed about the pointy-toed flat watermelon slingbacks that I missed out on), as well as probably her most popular shoe ever, the signature “Chiara” heel with 3-dimensional butterfly wings at the back of the shoes.
Her collaboration with Puma began last late last year during Fall/Winter 17 when the German sportswear giant approached Webster after seeing her post some videos from her dance classes on Instagram. This season’s collab features various dancewear items as well as several shoes, including slides and her interpretation of Puma’s signature creepers. My favourite from this current season is the glitter creepers you see above, with a dark metallic glitter formstripe and sparkly leather upper which, against the dark surface, doesn’t come off as OTT at all.
Sophia Webster’s signature appears on both the embroidered patch on the tongue, as well as at the back of the sneaker’s insole. Oh, the most endearing part of the shoe is definitely the unicorns at the back of the shoe (they appear on all of Puma x Sophia Webster shoes), for that touch of whimsy. Seeing as I’m quite a big fan of glittery shoes of any sort, it’s doesn’t come as a surprise that I picked this out of the entire collab as my fave, eh?
