Toosday Shoesday: Ferragamo’s F Heel For Spring/Summer 2021
Salvatore Ferragamo has debuted the new F Heels for Spring/Summer 2021, inspired by the original curved heel shape for which the founder, Mr. Salvatore himself, won a Neiman Marcus award, in 1947 alongside Monsieur Christian Dior. The 2021 edition of the F Heel has that same architectural design as its original predecessor, and is made from a single piece of nappa leather, and crafted utilising a meticulous crimping process repeated up to 12 times to ensure perfection is achieved.
Available in 2 styles (as a sandal, or a slingback), all of which are created entirely in monocolour, including the sole edge and rubber heel lift. You’d find this sculptural heel in Hedren Green and Technicolour Yellow on sandals, as well as a pearlescent bead embellished version in black, while the slingback come in neutrals such as black, white, and burgundy.
The F-shape heel is one of Salvatore Ferragamo’s greatest inventions. It defies the eye’s perception of gravity and leaves the foot seemingly suspended in space. Alfred Hitchcock once said that ‘ideas come from everything’: I love the story that our founder formed the idea for this beautiful, delicate, and totally counter-intuitive design by observing the curved stem of the ocean liner on which he steamed home to Italy from his days as shoemaker to Hollywood’s greatest starts in the US.
I’ve been honoured to work with this shape for Salvatore Ferragamo on and off since 2017, but this season it seemed especially perfect. […] I set out to create a modern sequel to Ferragamo’s timeless classic that adds new layers of sustainability and technical innovation to his brilliant original. […] It’s a true classic that will endure as a bedrock of Salvatore Ferragamo. ~ Creative Director Paul Andrew~
