Hublot x Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow Limited Edition Watch
Last year, we saw Takashi Murakami collaborate with Hublot on 2 Limited Edition Murakami editions featuring an All Black in January 2021, and the Classic Fusion Sapphire Rainbow version in December 2021; both of which, have the iconic smiling Murakami flower on the dial. Owners of these watches, too, were able to claim their digital twin version of their timepiece in April 2022, which came in the form of an NFT, in the artist’s pixelated Superflat style (similar of the graphics on Tamagotchi, of the late 1990s).
Last month, the brand unveiled a third version of another Murakami x Hublot edition, featuring the same smiling flower in classic Murakami rainbow brights, paved in rubies, sapphires, amethysts, tsavorites and topaz , against an entirely all black self-winding 43mm timepiece in satin-finished and polished black ceramic, and finished of with black lined rubber straps. But that’s not all, because with each flick of the wrist, the petals spin on an axis, so be prepared to be hypnotised by Murakami’s wheel of flower petals!
The brand revealed that is actually the 13th watch in the new collaboration – the first 12 of which, would make their debut at Watches and Wonders 2023 in Geneva this month. And, if you’re wondering how you can score one of these adorable Limited Edition Murakami editions, well, you’d have to get some Ethereum (cryptocurrency) and head on over to the NFT marketplace, OpenSea, and collect (i.e. purchase) all of the 12 NFTs (shown above) between now and April 2024 to be eligible to purchase this very watch. In the event that no single person has managed to collect all of them, the watch will be auctioned off, with proceeds to be donated to charity.
