Burberry Prorsum: Men’s Spring/Summer 2012 Bags
I know this post is a little delayed. It was intentional, as I wanted to feature the Resort 2012 collections before featuring the Men’s Spring/Summer 2012 collections because I didn’t want it to seem as though I was jumping back and forth between Mens and Resort 2012.
So, first up, the Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer 2012 Complete Runway Show shot in Milan, 18 June 2011
As usual, Burberry has made its Spring/Summer 2012 collection available for instant pruchase on Burberry’s Official Website right after the runway show for a period of one week until 27 June 2011. Your product purchases will arrive approximately 2 months later, so yes, it’s a sort of pre-order service and part of Burberry’s “Runway to Reality” initiative.
Here’s the COMPLETE COLLECTION of bags from the men’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection:
The Verdict: Apart from the usual leathers and exotic skins, Christopher Bailey works with lots of raffia and linen for the Men’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection. Whether it be woven raffia; or in terms of the combination of different materials such as linen and leather, texture seems to be the underlying philosophy and theme for the season. Even for the striped bags, texture is the obvious key element: the stripes themselves have different textures and what appears to be a combination of waxed canvas (or coated canvas) with jacquard. As Christopher Bailey says, “We have taken our icons and played with texture to personalise and give them a real character and charm using colour to highlight the intricate detail that goes into crafting them”
The raffia, linen and basket weave totes remind me a little of the woven bamboo leaf mats and handwoven handicrafts that we get over here in Asia. And I must say that although it is a men’s collection, there are quite a number of pieces that have quite a unisex appeal. The linen tote with “Burberry Prorsum” emblazoned in an oval on the front, however, reminds me of Prada’s Heritage line, and most recently their “Canapa” range of bags.
All the guys out there reading this, what do you think of this collection?
