Van Cleef & Arpel’s Latest Bouton d’Or Collection
Van Cleef & Arpels has just unveiled their Bouton d’or collection of fine jewellery. Taking inspiration from the curved lines of a jewellery motif called “Paillette” (not to be confused with Pailettes a.k.a. sequins and shiny disc-like clothing embellishments) which first appeared in the Maison’s 1939 archives, the collection is made up of an assortment of diamonds, gold, mother-of-pearl, and hard stones have been clustered together in this style, formed and put together in such a way that allows the pieces to hug the body’s curves to ensure that they sit comfortably on the wearer.
To create each piece, the small pastilles are first individually shaped, then delicately polished, and attached meticulously, all of which, are done by hand! Fun fact: up to one thousand of these individual pastilles are needed to create a necklace! The collection, made up of two sets of five pieces, they are available in either yellow gold, onyx, and chrysoprase; or pink gold with carnelian and mother-of-pearl.
