Dior Fall/Winter 18 Tribales Earrings
Ah, Dior‘s Tribales earrings. These ear adornments with bulbous spherical backs were something that was new to everyone. What’s even better is that they could be worn on either side, or if you’re adventurous enough, mix them up and wear mismatched pairs.
Introduced by Raf Simons when he was Creative Director, the Tribales inspired many brands, and copycat versions started mushrooming everywhere. From the high street to contemporary labels and even some luxury land fine jewellery labels, they all had it, in some form or other. It was inf cat, one of the most highly covetable pair of earrings ever, and virtually everyone had to have them. Despite it being some seasons since its introduction, it’s still one of the Dior’s popular items – it’s no wonder why, even under the creative direction of Maria Grazia Chiuri, that the Tribales continues to be a part of seasonal collections.
For Fall/Winter 18, with an abundance of aged brass hardware and gilt metal, the Tribales give off a more vintage vibe. Founder Christian Dior was known to love women wearing earrings, and keeping his spirit alive (pun unintended), his signature lucky charms, the star, the bee, and his initials, “CD”, take centerstage. “J’ADIOR” , a phrase introduced by Chiuri, now closely associated with the Maison, too, are part of the collection.
If you want something more elaborate, and aesthetically “very Chiuri”, you can opt for these marbled ones with the star and crescent moon on the outer ring, which to me, evokes that galaxy-theme reminiscent of the rings around planets.
