Trend Alert: Barrettes & Hair Clips
Since I was a wee child, I’ve always been into hair accessories, and headgear. In kindergarten and elementary school, it was ribbons, barrettes, and scrunchies. When I moved onto my teenage years, it was all about bandanas and newsboy hats. Then, I caught the Gossip Girl fever, and went on a headband spree, accumulating an entire drawer full of them. All of which, I have kept until this day. Yep, hoarder much?
Fast forward to 2018 and 2019, and I was so happy to see that Karl Lagerfeld sent each and every single model with headbands down the Chanel runway. So, though straying from our usual programming, you can understand why this is the first time we chose to feature hair accessories, like barrettes, hair clips, and hair slides.
From K-Pop stars and celebs like Rihanna, Alexa Chung, and Ariana Grande, to the high fashion runways of Zimmermann, Max Mara, Versace, Zadig & Voltaire and street style stars Aimee Song, Susie Bubble, Bella Hadid, and Kendall Jenner; all of them have been sporting this trend. These hair accessories come in every imaginable form: jewel and/or crystal encrusted, covered in pearls, emblazoned with a brand on it, plain stick-like hair slides, and even those that have huge capitalised words on them. What was previously used to keep stray hairs out of your face, and for keeping your ‘do neat, is now trending like crazy, and not likely to fizzle out any time soon. I’d even go as far as to say that these hair accessories are the biggest trend of 2019!
