Newsflash: Alexander Wang to Quit Balenciaga

Kering (formerly the PPR group) has officially announced last Friday (31 July) that Alexander Wang would be leaving his short-lived post as Creative Director for Balenciaga. Apparently a joint decision, the Spring 2016 collection will be Wang’s last collection for the brand.

Wang commented,

“It’s been an incredible experience to work with a couture house in Paris. I am honored to have had the opportunity to work for this historical maison. I would like to thank the brilliant team at Balenciaga for their collaboration and for what we have accomplished together, and I am looking forward to taking my own brand to its next level of growth.”

Balenciaga President and CEO Isabelle Guichot said,

“We are all at Balenciaga extremely grateful to Alexander for his important contribution to the style and history of this iconic house, while Kering chairman and CEO François-Henri Pinault “join[s] Isabelle Guichot and the Balenciaga house in heartfully thanking Alexander for his dedication and unique artistic contribution to the building of Balenciaga in a more globally recognized house. I personally wish him all the best

Despite this being something that would eventually happen, just a matter of whether sooner rather than later, I’m rather disappointed to see Wang go. But I’m sure, the question on everyone’s minds right now (mine included), is who then, would take his place as Creative Director? Well, it’s your guess as much as mine, that would apparently, “be announced in due course”.
