Fondation Louis Vuitton’s “Observatory of Light” by Visual Artist Daniel Buren

The Fondation Louis Vuitton continues its commitment to the support of Architecture and the Arts . The latest collaboration is with Daniel Buren, entitled Observatory of Light. Burden’s temporary work serves as an installation across the glass 12 ‘sails’ of the Fondation’s exterior featuring 13 different coloured filters that will, according to the time of day and season, make coloured forms appear and disappear.

Having experimented with these 8,7cm-wide alternating white and coloured vertical stripes since the 1960s, this may be considered as one of the distinctive features of Buren’s œuvre.

Fondation Louis Vuitton President, Bernard Arnault, comments that

Daniel Buren has designed a grandiose project, pertinent and enchanting, the result of a real dialogue with Frank Gehry and his building. His work responds magnificently to the architecture, in line with his approach, going back to the 1970s, that sees a coming together of colours, transparency and light.
