FENDI’s California Sky Capsule Collection of Pre-Fall 2020
For Prefall 2020, FENDI is once again collaborating with Los Angeles-based visual artist Joshua Vides for the second time, following the successful Fendi Caffe and Peekaboo Bar pop-up in Harrod’s in London, in July 2019.
Known for his graphic black and white marker style, he gives this California Sky Capsule the same treatment, with the addition of sky blue and wisteria violet touches, to create three-dimensional tromp-loeil effects on an array of women’s, men’s, and kid’s ready-to-wear and accessories comprising beachwear, sportswear, outerwear, denim, and knits. You’d also notice a reworking of the FENDI Stamps and iconic FF logo, splashed over a degradé background inspired by the hues of the Roman sky.
Bags-wise, you’ll see the Peekaboo and Baguette bags in super soft padded leather, the new FENDI Roma shopper and Colibri and FF Fluid footwear, all markered out. However, three-dimensional as they may seem, yet, at the same time, also makes you do a double-take because with all those elements drawn on with markers –especially on the bags and shoes– you’ll start to question whether they’re actually real bags and shoes or something that is something that is instead illusory and two-dimensional. Watch the video below, and you’ll soon realise that it’s certainly going to be a case of “is it really, or is it not?”, kinda like those 2D Korean cafes that are actually three-dimensional but seem so flattened out that it could be mistaken for a two-dimensional space instead.
Well, whether 3D or 2D, it’s certainly a capsule that’s bursting with street style cred.
