#PFW: Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 19 Runway & Bags Report

Nicolas Ghesquière took us to outer space for Louis Vuitton‘s Spring/Summer 19 collection. No, I’m not referring to the show set, but the actual collection itself. The sci-fi vibes were particularly reflected in the dramatic sleeves that came in the form of the flared oversized cocoon-esque ribbed variety, to the angular space suit sleeves that are astronaut-like, and similar to those you see in the cartoon, The Jetsons. And then there were of course the more literal space prints featuring robotic limbs, and technicolour lakes and mountains. The blazers also sported angular shoulders and funky lapels, also reminiscent of uniforms of the space age. My favourite was definitely the painterly looks which looked like abstract art thanks to the broad brushstroke prints.

On the bags front, it was all about the dinosaur egg top handle bag, which, to me, also resembled a futuristic version of a kettlebell. More trunk-detailed bags also made it onto the runway along with the cube bag, an pointy triangular flap bag with a handle, and bag that’s sorta like a cross between a mini suitcase and the Porte Documente from the Men’s collection. Oh, and of course, something that’s definitely bang on with the whole sci-fi theme of the collection, a bag that looked like a mini UFO.
