The set and backdrop to the Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter 2012-13 show was simply stunning, as though everyone had been transported to Marc’s Winter Wonderland; entirely white and complete with With a meandering stage and centrepiece, which I interpreted as a frozen fountain of sorts. In short, it was simply magical.

Before I go on about the bags, let’s first begin by the one element that caught everyone’s attention from the moment the first model walked out: the headgear…. Oversized, fluffy, fuzzy hats. That’s right, they came in a few shapes, but most were so huge that the top half of the models’ faces couldn’t be seen. Due to the sheer size of the hat, I marveled at the model’ ability to walk on the runway even though their view of the catwalk was obstructed by the hat. Not once did they even tilt their head downwards. Kudos to the models.

While most editors called them pimp hats, I however, look at them as more of Mad Hatter and  Cat In The Hat typed hats. And coupled with the clunky shoes with oversized buckles (shown below) which made me think of the carriage driver character’s shoes from Cinderella, Marc Jacobs certainly spun his own storybook version of a fairytale set in his very own Winter Wonderland.

And now, on with the bags…..

Apart from the clutch, sported the same unstructured, yet boxy shape made of mostly of patent leather. And like the hats and the buckle detail on the shoes, they were also rather large, and seemed more like day travel bags instead of actual handbags. But then a thought struck me… if the bags already look huge on the statuesque models, can you imagine how large they’d look on us mere mortals and “normal” sized people?

In short, I’m not a fan of the collection at all, and the hats were too distracting. What are YOUR thoughts?
