#NYFW: Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2013

Since the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2013 runway show yesterday was at 4pm EST, that would have made it 4am Malaysian time, so I really didn’t manage to wake up in the middle of the night to catch the livestream. Even though I didn’t though, it really goes without saying that the show began on time, because, after all, Marc Jacobs was in charge. What I did do, was watch the on-demand video when I woke up in the morning.

Compared to the Marc Jacobs SS13 collection, MbMJ was so much more fun with a mix of stripes and prints in vibrant colours, models with headgear (scarves wrapped bohemian style like a thick headband around the head), strutting down the runway to 80s music.

The Verdict: Before I start commenting on the bags, can I just say that I really loved the MbMJ SS13 collection? And yes, I’m talking about the clothes, the prints, the burst of colours, and even the ankle-strapped jelly wedges! As for the bags, I thought they were MUCH better than Marc Jacobs’s main line that we saw yesterday. Though I’m not usually a fan of gingham, somehow the design just works on the boxy totes. The only bags I thought that and well, er, cheap looking (sorry Marc!) were the transparent bags with Marc’s signature pushlock closure that he seemed to have carried over from which worked well because he got to show his small accessories too, but apart from that, it was a little too tacky. But not everything transparent came off in the same way. The transparent totes with the with the checked details and the dome-shaped bags ala Vuitton’s Alma with peekaboo transparent details right down the middle were super-cute!

Which did you prefer? MJ SS13 or MbMJ SS13? You can still watch the on-demand service of both the Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs shows here
