#MFW: Fendi Spring/Summer 18 Runway & Bags Report

Kaia Gerber, the offspring of supermodel Cindy Crawford, certainly made her mark as she sashayed down the runway in a striped opening look for Fendi’s Spring/Summer 18 show during her debut Milan Fashion Week season. This basically set the stage for the looks that followed, because stripes and checks, in both opaque and sheer gauzy fabrics, basically made up the entire collection.

Karl Lagerfeld and Sylvia Venturini Fendi also seems to want to bring logomania back in vogue, with the abundance of logo fur coats paired with matching Fendi Zucca bags. The cutout shoulder or cold shoulder trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, either, as quite a few of the models sported bare shoulders, so hang on to your tops and dresses that you currently have because you can wear them again come Spring, as per Karl’s decree! And then there were also floral prints (because what would Spring be without florals, right?), which are inspired by the artwork by artist Giacomo Balla, one of the key advocates for the Futuristic artistic and social movement, whose work was also referenced in the show set.

This season, it’s mostly about reinventing the Classics like the Peekaboo, and the “newer” classic, the Kan I, which, since this current Fall/Winter 17 season, we’ve already seen in its original form, as well as with the new Fendi Logo featuring a diagonally inverted F encased in a circle, hence called the Kan I F. And then there are the seasonal shapes like the mesh basket-esque tote, called the Runaway bag with an oval-shaped rattan handle, in the key themes of the season: stripes, checks, and flowers, along with the Fendi Zucca logo. What I love most, is the cutesy mini bucket bag, the Mon Trésor especially the one with the contrast-coloured whipstitched base! That said, there is something about the shoes this season, as I find myself being drawn to more shoes than bags, and since you know I’m a flats kinda girl, I really really can’t wait for Spring to come so I can get my hands on those pointy-toed athletic-esque slingback sandals because they’re so cute, and most importantly, super comfy.
