#MFW: Fendi Spring/Summer 19 Runway & Bags Report

At Fendi‘s Spring/Summer 19it was pockets and monograms galore, and not just the outerwear. Shirts, too had enormous pockets. Whatever it was, whether it was the clothing, or the accessories, and even belts, there nary a surface that Karl did not slap pockets – oftentimes, of varying sizes, onto! I guess Karl and Silvia are trying a hand at making the functional, fashionable. Boy, did they succeed, because never had utilitarian look so chic!

In terms of the colours, I guess you could say that it was a decidedly more of a “traditionally Fall” kinda palette, with whites, and earthy hues like chocolate, beige, olive, camel, orange, and a pop of red, thrown into the mix. The many colours of autumn leaves, if you will (well except the white and denim of course). Accessories, however, were much more vibrant, with bags in colours such as aqua, orange, neon yellow, aubergine, pink, and pastel yellow, amidst others in white, beige, black, and olive.

The bags, too, were primarily monogrammed (both printed and embossed on to the leather), the Peekaboo, a new belt bag that resembled a tool kit, with multiple pockets of various sizes, dangling from it, were not spared from the multi-pockets treatment. There was another new belt bag, which reminded slightly of the Mama Baguette from the late-1990sto early-2000s, but this time, without its triangular side profile. Instead, it takes the form of an upside-down bag, with a zipper on top of what would traditionally be the bottom of a bag. A large Boston bag was spotted on the runway, along with larger versions of the Mon Trésor and the Baguette. In fact, it SS19 can be considered as the revival of fashion’s first ever “It bag”, the Baguette, which came in various fanciful forms, including embroidered versions.

Hm, I can’t help but wonder …  with Dior’s Saddle, and now the Baguette, could we be in an era of the “It Bags Revival of Yesteryear”? *insert thoughtful emoji here*
