An Insider’s Look at the London Fashion Week Exhibitions!

Early Friday morning (Sept 16), I headed over to Somerset House, home of the British Fashion Council to collect my international blogger pass — yup! I have been verified by the organizers of London Fashion Week as press! This pass gives me access not only to the exhibition (the LFW trade show that’s only open to buyers and press), but also to all fashion show tents as well!

My London Fashion Week “International Blogger” Pass!

Note: This post is primarily a photo-filled post, with minimal text! And please note that all the photos taken here do NOT feature ALL the exhibitors’ booths, or rather, in this case, “rooms” with their Spring/Summer 2012 collection on display! All the exhibitors allowed photos to be taken, except for Jerome Dreyfuss. Anyway, here we go…. click on images to enlarge.

The Buyers/bloggers/press registration area and also the exit to the courtyard  to the Catwalk space. I spotted Alexa Chung somewhere in this area!

Zoe & Morgan – jewellery designer

And I’m sure a brand that needs no introduction, Pauric Sweeny!

My FAVOURITE bag from the collection! And affordable too! I can’t reveal the price as the price they quoted me was the wholesale price for buyers should they want to stock the brand’s bags

Fancy some headgear? Up next, the Millinery section!

Disney couture! Notice all the Mickeys?

Not a Disney fan, but OMG This is SO STUNNING! All the editors and buyers were practically fawning over this piece!!

Yet another brand that needs no introduction, especially if you’re American! SJP owns some Botkier bags too! For those Malaysians out there reading this, I don’t know if you remember, but Botkier was previously stocked at Belle @ Isetan KLCC, but is no longer available in KL. I loved some of the Botkier bags so much, that there will be a dedicated Botkier post up soon (with prices), after Fashion Month is over! And to Kari @ the Botkier booth who definitely delivers, thanks so much! You have been very kind!

Jewellery designer Orit! LOVE these 2 pieces part of the Spring/Summer 2012 collection! This isn’t in stores yet, but will be come SS 12! Many colours available (yes I’m talking about the Grosgrain ribbons these are on!) and retail at GBP40! I almost bought these and given that it’s a trade show, they only sell to buyers, but the lady was kind enough to ask her boss if she could sell them to me because I just loved it SO much, but didn’t have the time to go back to the booth and I’m already regretting it! =(

Back of the bracelet also with pebble and heart fastening!!

Bags by Wilbur & Gussie: usually evening bags made of crystals or satin or both!

Now, we’re moving to the courtyard outside Somerset House, the Catwalk Space, where SOME of the runway shows are held.

The “Cinema” and the schedule for each day where those who aren’t invited to the shows could watch the show from a big screen projector LIVE while it happened inside the catwalk space.
The schedule where some shows and presentations are also held, the “Portico Rooms” at the BFC

Inside the Portico Room

And moving downstairs, to the space featuring emerging British designers, called the Topshop & Elle Emerging Talent room:

First up, shoe designer Joanne Stoker’s SS12 collection – she is already stocked at Selfridges

The LED shoe: the lights you see on the heel is actually a panel of LED lights, which can be charged via USB. Once fully charged, use a magnetic strip that comes with the shoe to “turn it on” or “off”. Lasts for 4 hours, then you need to charge it again. Not a fan of the design, but A good clubbing shoe, no? This kind of reminds me of Chanel’s glow in the dark shoes from Cruise 2012.

My favourite shoe from the SS 12 collection!

Up next, Greek bag designer, George Angelopoulos, whom I spoke to, and who was also very helpful and friendly! He’s currently stocked at Harvey Nichols. I might also do a feature on this designer’s bags!

These bags come with both a chain and leather strap so swap the straps as you wish to suit the occasion and your moods!

Yet another designer, Amelia Powers whose bags are Bespoke (i.e. made-to-order) so feel free to mix and match to suit your whims and fancies! All her bags are made of exotic skins (croc, python, stingray, etc) and lined with goat suede. It will take only 3 months to make if the skins in the colours you request for are available on hand. She’s a shaman and has been nicknamed as “the good witch” —  she blesses each bag before presenting it to the customer! Spring/Summer 2012 is her debut season, and she has already been featured on the Vogue UK blog! A more detailed post on her bags will also be up on the blog soon!

Lastly, clothes hanger design company, Mainetti, who has already designed clothes hangers for some Italian fashion houses!

This is the world’s most expensive hanger! Made of 400 Swarovski crystals, this hanger is for sale and retails at a whopping GBP1800! This is the fourth one that has been made — the first three have already been sold!!

And here’s a posterboard for London Fashion Weekend, that’s held after London Fashion Week. While London Fashion Week is a trade show event and only for fashion industry invitees, the Fashion Weekend is open to the public! Held from Thursday 22 September – Sunday 25 September, the public could buy tickets to this event, which offers the catwalk show experience (depending on the type of tickets one chose to purchase) as well as a sample sale featuring designer pieces from Ready-to-Wear to Shoes, to jewellery and sunglasses at 30-70% off retail prices!

Alrighty, that’s all for this post! As for the Burberry Body giveaway, I’m still thinking what ya’ll need to do to win it, so stay tuned! It will be announced on the blog and on my Twitter (@bagaddictsanon) once I’ve decided!

Next post: Milan Fashion Week! A little sore about MFW because I was still in London at that time and would have been able to make it for both the Gucci and Bottega Veneta shows but I didn’t go! So close yet so far! Oh well, next year then!

Till my next post,
