Newsflash: Christophe Lemaire Bids Farewell to Hermès

Christophe Lemaire, who has been the artistic director of Hermès’s women’s ready-to-wear since June 2010 will leave his post at the Maison, after the women’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection presentation on October 1st 2014 to focus on his own label.

Lemaire comments that “Working for Hermès has been a great pleasure, a profoundly enriching experience on both an human and professional level. I am proud of what we have built together. My own label is growing in an important way and I now really want and need to dedicate myself to it fully”.

In response to Lemaire’s upcoming departure, Axel Dumas, Chief Executive Officer of Hermès says: “I am very grateful to Christophe for the passion with which he has addressed and enriched the expression of our house in women’s ready-to-wear. … I wish him the greatest success with his own label which is so close to his heart”

After Jean Paul Gaultier’s departure at Hermès, we have grown accustomed to, and found a newfound love in Lemaire’s minimalist aesthetic. I can’t wait to see Lemaire’s swan song and what he has in store for us at the SS15 show. And, the golden question that is on everyone’s minds right now would be — who will fill his position at Hermès? Or will the upcoming seasonal collections after SS15 be designed by the atelier until a suitable candidate is found?

Who would YOU want to see take the horse’s reins at Hermès? Who’d you think would be a good fit?
