Exhibit: The Essence of Schiatzy Chen

You might not be familiar with the name Shiatzy Chen, but apart from having her boutique at StarHill Gallery, the Taiwanese designer continues to show her seasonal collections at Paris Fashion Week. Last week, I popped over for a personal guided tour of the exhibit located next to the boutique on the Indulge floor. Called “The Essence of Shiatzy Chen”, the exhibit showcases some of the designer’s designs from all stages in her career.

The designer

All of the designer’s creations feature luxurious satins and silks, with Chinese embroidery and painting all done by hand by the artisans at Chen’s atelier.

Emrboidery details that look like painted flourishes

Lace, embroidery, beading and painted details (behind the lace overlay)

A blend of East and West, Victorian tiered full skirts with a classically Chinese top

What I thought was beading at first, but upon closer look, it’s an embroidery technique that creates this beaded effect

The exhibit will be on until the end of March and is open to the public from 10am to 7pm daily.
