Event Post: Thakoon FW15 @SGFW Runway Report

Model’s hair being held in place by what looks like a the back of a playing card. It’s definitely a first for me seeing this!

Despite getting an invite to Thakoon‘s FW15 show at Singapore Fashion Week, I had to rush back home because of PhD deadlines, and it was rather difficult to decline the invite because I knew that it wasn’t an opportunity that came by often, much less right over the causeway in Singapore! 🙁 Thankfully, my friend and photographer that I usually work with, Once Over Lightly had a photographer pass to Thakoon’s show! I knew that with her, I had it covered, so I wasn’t too bummed about missing the show. I’d received a text from her telling me that she was given a 10-minute backstage access before the show, and I was super stoked! Anyway, here’s the very same FW15 collection that Thakoon showed at New York Fashion Week in February this year.

Thakoon’s FW15 collection comprised of tapestry-like patterns achieved with the use of velvet. There were also stripes for day, and sequins for evening. Sounds a little OTT? Perhaps, but even without the classic peasant tops and bohemian paraphernalia, Thakoon managed to turn it into something that was very boho-inspired. The overall silhouette for both the day and evening looks were figure-flattering, skimming the body rather than hugging it. The usual materials for the fall and winter seasons – wool and shearling – were both utilised as details rather than the main materials he worked with. What’s more, the knotted-at-the-waist details, although reminiscent of the 80s trend where everyone tied a sweater around their waists didn’t seem tacky or retro at all. Instead, it felt more like a detail that accentuated the outfit, rather than a belted sash. Oh, and my favourite pieces were definitely the sequinned evening looks.
