Newsflash: Chanel’s FULL Fall/Winter 2013 Ad Campaign Shot by Karl Lagerfeld

Last week, Chanel revealed their latest Womenswear Ad Campaign for Fall/Winter 2013-14. Shot by Karl Lagerfeld, the campaign features renowned international models from ethnically diverse backgrounds: Chiharu Okunugi from Japan, Ashleigh Good from UK, and Park Soo Joo from Korea – perhaps this is a wind change and marks the beginning of the Asian invasion? I mean, hey, we saw that in terms of contemporary designers like Alexander Wang, Thakoon, Jason Wu, Phillip Lim, Derek Lam, and Prabal Gurung, so why not in the world of modelling? 😉

The first thing that came to mind when I saw these Ad Campaign images was the song “Defying Gravity” from my favourite musical Wicked. I mean, don’t they all look like they’re floating about in outer space? This sorta makes sense if we think of Chanel’s FW13 runway show at Paris Fashion Week , with the gargantuan globe in the middle of the runway, with Chanel flags being planted where Chanel stores are on the globe. At that point, Karl was making a statement about Chanel’s world domination. So, perhaps this ad campaign speaks of Chanel’s domination that is not only on an international scale, but extends right beyond right through to outer space (hence the floating about in the ad campaign?)

Note: The Fall/Winter 2013 collection will land in stores globally as well as on Chanel’s official website in mid-September .
