Hermès #CarreClub in Singapore

Hermès created a fun playground dedicated to the art of the silk scarf in Singapore, a weekend ago. Called the Carré Club, a stately bungalow on 3,Lady Hill Road, was home to this magnificent pop-up. Conceived by Bali Barret, the artistic director of the Hermès women’s universe, the mansion was turned into a premise which had the feel of a combination of a gentleman’s club, artist’s workshop and private clubhouse all in one.

Before attending, you’d first need to register at the dedicated website, with your name, along with your preferred timeslot. Why? Well that’s because upon entry, you’d be greeted by the Carré Click and Check, where you’d receive your membership card with your name printed onto it, along with your official portrait with Hermès scarves and props for you to use and put on for your mug shot.

Once you’re done taking your glam shot, you’d find yourself heading into Carré Mania, where you can feast your eyes on the special capsule collection including limited edition scarves and special edition silk bandana created specifically for the Carré Club and available for purchase exclusively at this venue.

Walk right into Carré-OK where you’d find colourful carrés arranged in a panel-like manner, where you can sing along and unabashedly belt out tunes with a curated song selection that loosely correspond to all things silk! And, right after all that singing, you can start boogie-ing and busting out your dance moves at the Carré Disco that comes complete with a square disco ball!

And if this wasn’t already an immersive experience after all that, head on out to the Carré Park designed with that skate park vibe in mind, where you can actually watch skater boys perform flips and tricks on a carré-inspired skate ramp!

After all that fun, it’s time for some serious artistry on the 2nd floor: the Carré Studio, an atelier where you can see artisans and carré designers creating and designing in real time. Watch Gianpaolo Pagni stamping directly onto silk scarves to create another layer of illustration on them, Ugo Gattoni & Jean-Simon Roch creating and animating a series of drawings introducing a recurring character (a horse) called Mino, hear Alice Shirley sharing about her creative process particularly with regards to the rendering of realistic animals amidst artistic natural settings, Malaysian fashion illustrator Keng Saw who will illustrate your portrait in his own signature style which you’d be able to take home, Octave Marsal & Théo de Gueltzl in a live session creating freely in the manner of a cadaver exquis, along with Singapore’s artist-embroiderer Izziyana Suhaimi embroidering colourful threads onto Hermès scarves.

Possibly one of my favourite stops of the pop-up, is the Carré Cut, where you can dress up in colourful square-cut wigs, and get your manicures in vibrant carré colours. Once you’re all dolled up, head on over to Carré Stories, where you can listen to recorded messages in the form of secrets and anecdotes at a retro telephone booth, and it’s all up to you to distinguish fact from fiction! 😉

After all that walking and exploring, you can grab a table at the Carré Café by Singaporean food stylist, photographer and barista, CR Tan, who had put together a special menu for the occasion, where squares, and splashes of colour take centerstage. Have some fun playing retro arcade games or immersing yourself in a literary read while waiting for your food.
