Events: DKNY Fall & Resort 2010

Held on Friday, 22 October 2010, at the TUDM (Air Force) Museum along Jalan Sungai Besi, the theme of the DKNY event was “Fashion Meets Music”. First up, the runway presentation for Fall and Resort 2010 collections (including the Kids and Men’s line) — invitees were the first in Malaysia to view the collections! The dress code? New York City Chic.

The car sticker, and the invitation card, with the invitee’s name embossed onto it, resembling a credit card!

The temporary tent that was set up for the event ala Fashion Week Style!

And since this was an airforce museum, it was a runway show on an actual runway, with models stepping out of an airforce jet!

Pics below: shots of the rectangular runway before the show began!

Our seating arrangements for the evening

This card was on our each of our seats..

Flip it over, and you have a summary of the philosophy behind the Fall/Winter 2010-11 collection…

While waiting for the show to begin, snacks were being handed out, but not your usual canapes and hor’s deourves. Instead, in true DKNY All-American spirit, snacks such as, popcorn, mini hot dogs, mini burgers, wedges were served in DKNY takeout boxes (shown below); along with a fashion event MUST, and yes, I am talking about champagne or coffee in a DKNY styrofoam cup were served.

At 9pm, the lights dimmed and the show began with little kids in DKNY Fall/Winter 2010-11 Kids collection running down and around the runway in pairs! And my were they adorable — and that’s really saying A LOT, especially for someone like me, who doesn’t like kids!

All the kids waving at us, bidding goodbye! Oh, and that green thing you see in the background, is where all the kids and models emerged from — and yes, it’s the tail of an actual airforce jet!

The emcees for the evening, Denise Keller, and Joey G (who also later deejayed at the after-party!) who were also wearing pieces from the Fall 2010 collection.

The Final Walkthrough!

Models walking back into the plane….

And there you have it! There were 55 looks on 55 models in total, and I was told that the models had actually arrived on location by helicopter!

Curtains were pulled back to reveal the after-party, where Joey G was spinning.
Well I was dead tired, so needless to say, I went straight home after the runway show and didn’t stay for the after-party. Besides, clubs aren’t really my kind of thing anyway.

The Verdict: I can’t really comment much on the collection because it was for Fall/Winter, and isn’t very weather-appropriate for Malaysia, and honestly, commenting on clothes isn’t really my forte either. But as for the bags (which I didn’t get any detail shots of simply because the models were just walking too fast!), and according to the summary of the collection that we all got on our seats, the season’s bag is a variant of the man’s satchel, either in envelope or flat fold-over styles, and some with plaid (or checkered) details on them.
As for the event itself, it definitely was more youthful in terms of music and atmosphere, and more fast-paced, whilst the Marc Jacobs event was definitely more laid-back, intimate, cozy, and salon-esque with that high society feel.
