Event Post: Michael Kors Spring/Summer 2013 Press Preview

On January 22, Michael Kors had their Spring/Summer 2013 press preview at The Galleria, a new show space located at the Fashion Avenue section in Pavilion KL where we got to see both the looks and accessories from the MICHAEL and the main Michael Kors line.

Once we registered ourselves in front, this is the sight that greeted us upon entry into the venue: The looks from the MICHAEL Michael Kors collection. The main themes for this collection were Tie-Dye, Stripes, Colour-blocking and Zebra prints.

Mullet skirts have been hot for awhile now, but I’ve never been able to wear them because they’re usually too long. Yes, I’m vertically challenged that way. And as for the shorter length ones? Well, they’re either cut too high up in front or the inner lining is too short that I’d reveal my indecent bits for all to see anyway so I don’t own any. But what I do love is Michael’s take on the mullet skirt which isn’t sheer so lining isn’t required, and the mid-length! It’s a piece I’m definitely eyeing come its launch in stores in March!

A lovely Spring coat from the collection

In case you don’t already know, I have a HUGE Stripes obsession, and I’m glad that most of the designers are doing Stripes for SS13! Yay me! While I’m not such a fan of the slashed/ripped look, I rather like the way they’ve sewn the slashed fabric together so that it resembles a rosette! Very artsy!

And my favourite dress of all from the entire MICHAEL Michael Kors collection, this party-ready  knitted pailettes (sequins) dress. Notice how the sequins are threaded upright instead of flat onto the material like they usually are? This is the first time I’ve seen it sewn this way! I also had concerns about the sequins scratching against the skin when worn, but I’ve felt the dress, and amazingly, it really doesn’t at all! In fact, you can’t even feel the sequins! Genius, no?

And now, the accessories from the MICHAEL Michael Kors collection. This season, it’s all about the studs, colour-blocking and of course, Stripes! ;D

Michael Kors’s signature Hamilton tote gets a makeover, and for the first time, will be available in canvas with leather trims.

Yet another Michael Kors classic, the Jet-Set tote is all decked out in stripes! But what I’m loving is those striped pochettes, which can be used as a flat purse for your bills and small change as an alternative to a wallet.

And now, the looks from Michael Kors collection, and it was set up in the exact order that the looks came down the Spring/Summer 2013 runway show during New York Fashion Week!

The 60s-inspired SS13 runway collection was all about the luxe jet-setter, a woman who is constantly on-the-go with fab clothes to show when she gets off the plane. Box pleats, stripes, colour-blocking and houndstooth were the themes for the season.

Super cool cutout one-piece swimsuit with a zippered mid section, no?  Oh and if you’re wondering about that zipper, the top isn’t detachable, because I asked! LOL

SS13 was also the first time that Michael experimented with digital prints, and this was actually a photo that he took of the reflection of ripples on the water of swimming pool at his hotel in Beverly Hills! And the dress below was another photo Michael captured of the clouds above his house in Malibu.

My absolute favourite from the runway collection has to be this belted palettes top that Michael paired with micro-shorts. So glamourous! I’m usually not a fan of gold except accessories, but this is absolutely stunning! Just look at the detailing, the sequins were actually cut and folded giving the dress amazing texture! Such a luxe piece, and almost couture-like even! And yes, it just so happens that I’m liking the sequinned pieces from both the MMK and Michael Kors collection.

Here we have the play on oversized houndstooth print.

That dress you see with the cut-out midriff on the far right closed the Michael Kors SS13 Runway show at NYFW. If you like the front of the dress, check out the back! Now, the question is, does it look familiar to you?

Well, it should, because Kristen Wiig wore it to this year’s Golden Globes and we got to touch and see up-close!

Now, the accessories from the Runway collection featuring some pieces in exotic skins like croc and ostrich!

Here’s the side profile of the shoes you see in the photo above. We were told that the ankle strap is placed higher up so that it’s more flattering on the leg because ankle straps sometimes tend to make our legs look shorter and chunkier.

My favourite bags from the entire collection, which you might already remember that I didn’t quite like it when I posted my NYFW Runway Review of the collection  but after having seen them, touched them and tried them on my arm up close, I have become quite smitten over these colour blocked top handle bags because they’re so fun! Besides, 2013 is the Year of the Small Bag! ;D
