Event Post: Gucci’s Fall/Winter 14 Press Day

Gucci held its first ever Press Preview in KL last week in the Chairman’s Suite at the Westin. It was a cozy and intimate affair (which was in fact quite similar to a re-see), where we got to preview both the Men’s and Women’s Fall/Winter 2014 Collection before they land in stores in August.

Since I’ve always been focusing on women’s items, here’s a look at the Men’s collection first before you scroll down over to the women’s collection.

Don’t you just love the pops of colour from the Men’s Pre-Fall 2014 collection?

Now dudes, this soft briefcase in Gucci’s Grand Prix leather this gorgeous mustard hue is what you need for work! And no, for all you motorsports fans out there, the Grand Prix leather is nothing related to racing; it’s the term used by the brand for calf leather of the highest quality.

For Fall/Winter 2014, it’s a pastel palette mixed with some muted earthy tones – a theme that is woven throughout both the women’s and men’s collections for the season. And oh, don’t forget to pile on the layers come FW!

If there was anything that I was fawning over from the Men’s collection, it was definitely THIS bag in a gorgeous unusual shade of slate. Okay, so you may need to be a little on the taller side to pull this off because it’s so roomy and versatile. In fact, it’s the perfect travel companion. Fasten the buckles like in the photo below when you use it as a carry-on bag on the plane, and then undo the buckles and you’d have an open-top tote!

And the Women’s Fall/Winter 2014 collection, which is very different from Creative Director Frida Giannini’s usual design aesthetic. Lots of canvas cotton and leather combinations, as well as neoprene, which I happen to ADORE.

See that pastel blue shoulder bag on the model? The colour in the photo really doesn’t do it any justice. It’s from the new Soft Jackie collection, and I very nearly almost stole it off the model because I loved it so much.

Be they ankle or knee-high, Fall/Winter 2014 is all about boots…

Can we just take a moment to ogle at that gorgeous and unusual shade of lilac?

My favourite dress is definitely this one with the ruffled bodice. In fact, it was rather unanimous. The other press peeps that I was sitting with all agreed that this was our favourite!

And for the evening looks, Frida (again unusual of her) opted for short dresses with 3D mirrored crystal embellishments instead of sweeping floor-length gowns.
