Event Post: The Coach Reopening Party @ The Gardens Mall with WangLeeHom!

I made my way to one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) events of 2013 Coach‘s Reopening Party at The Gardens Mall. Located on the ground floor beside Burberry (where Zouk Cafe used to be), the store is the first concept store of its kind in Asia.

It had been pouring since the afternoon, and needless to say, traffic was crazy. The event kicked off at 7pm, but I only managed to arrive at 8pm. And what a sight it was to behold. Coach didn’t just announce that international award-winning recording artiste, songwriter, record producer, actor and director Wang Lee Hom was the brand’s ambassador, but that he was also going to be there at the Reopening party. A stage was set up in the concourse area outside the store, ready for the arrival of the celebrity heartthrob. Hoardes of fans were already anxiously waiting Lee Hom’s arrival, blocking the entire concourse area. In fact, I literally had to squeeze through and make my way around the screaming fans congregating outside the venue (it really felt as though I was in a mosh pit of sorts) and onto the black carpet that led the way into the venue.

Since LeeHom’s arrival was scheduled for 8:30pm, I made my way around the store to have a look at the 2,411 sq. ft new concept store with Coach’s signature C monogram on the panels of the facade. Designed by the Coach Architecture Group, and women’s accessories aside, there’s also a dedicated men’s section modelled after the Omotesando flagship store in Tokyo, so all you guys out there reading this, you have not been forgotten!  Also on display was the Coach x Billy Reid collection, and the Harper Triple Zip satchel that’s only available exclusively at the Gardens Mall.

And aren’t the cake pops a sight to behold? Oh, and they’re SUPER yummy!

Coach had set up a station for all attendees to get our very own personalised Coach tags either in Fuchsia, Beige, or Dark Brown.

And then, like most events these days, there was also a photobooth! While there weren’t any props for us to use, we could actually send the photos we’d just taken directly to our emails, and beside it, there was also an LCD panel on a stand for us to upload our Coach photobooth shots directly to our Facebook accounts! How genius is that?

While I checked out the store, I bumped into some of the celebs in attendance: Deborah Henry, Yasmin Yusoff, Henry Golding, Danielle Graham, Debbie Goh, Andrea Fonseka, and Miss Malaysia Universe 2013 Carey Ng, who was a blast to hang out with!

At slightly over 8:30pm, the screams from outside got more intense, and that could only mean one thing. Yup, Lee Hom had arrived. He made his way towards the stage, thanked Coach and his fans who had braved the rain not just to welcome him at the airport earlier that day, but also for being right there at The Gardens Mall. Some fans even brought placards with “I Love You” on them! Deborah Henry was the emcee for the event, and asked the dashing Lee Hom a few questions about his collaboration with Coach. Having being brought up in NYC, the artiste said that he was more than delighted when he got the call from Coach 2 years ago. After the mini Q and A session on stage, Andrew Stanleick, Vice President and General Manager of Coach South East Asia oresented Lee Hom with a Bleecker Leather Weekend Tote, and then toasted to the new store. Lee Hom then went on a tour of the store with Mr Stanleick, and stopped at the Men’s section of the store to pose for some press photos.

I have to say, that while I’m not a fan of Wang LeeHom’s music, he really is super cute, not to mention, tall! There is, however, a piece of information that I’d like to correct though, with regards to his music education. While it’s true that Lee Hom attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, the local media has made it seem as if it’s either the sister school of the prestigious Juilliard School, or a rival. Being a Classically-trained musician (and teacher) myself, there is no way that Juilliard and Berklee are rivals – they can never be such because Juilliard focuses on Classical Music, while Berklee on contemporary music. They’re 2 totally different schools of thought, and Juilliard’s sister school is the Manhattan School of Music.

Anyway, LeeHom left shortly after, and I stayed on to mingle with my friends from the media, and tried on the bags and shoes.

Finally got to meet up with Ami Schaheera after 2 years of being online blogger friends!

At the end of the night, I came home with these baby: The Legacy Haley Satchel!

Thanks Coach for letting me be part of such an amazing experience!
