Splurge or Steal: Easy Breezy Wristlets

I, for one, can’t stand to part with my bags and feel as though I absolutely have to bring one along with me wherever I go, until one day, a friend asked if I was actually hiding crown jewels in them. Call it separation anxiety, if you will. But that said, there are others who don’t suffer the same syndrome that I am guilty of, and would prefer to leave our bags behind (because it’s more convenient to) when we head out to grab a quick bite, nip off to the loo, or even to run a quick errand. At times like these, wristlets serve as a great alternative because you can carry your phone, spare change and even a packet of tissues with you, and yet still have both hands free to do whatever it is you need to.
For this month’s Splurge, I’ve picked the grained leather wristlet from Burberry‘s Spring/Summer 2013 collection. Simple and chic enough if you don’t want something too fancy, this wristlet has yet another trick up its sleeve: simply undo the clasp attached, and it converts into a clutch. This is great because unlike other clutches that come with non-detachable straps, you’d have to tuck it into the bag itself (which isn’t that spacious to begin with), leaving you with even less room for your essentials. At RM1,550 you’ll be getting two bags for the price of one! How awesome is that? However, do note that this grained leather wristlet is not available in the Malaysian Burberry boutiques, though it may be purchased via the official website – just make sure you change the country to “Malaysia” before proceeding with your order.
Of course, no feature on wristlets would be complete without mentioning Coach, which happens to be this month’s Steal. Wristlets used to be few and far between where other brands are concerned, but at Coach, it has always been a staple. In fact, Coach used to be the go-to brand whenever anyone wanted a wristlet, and now, with their latest Legacy collection, it doesn’t matter whether we’re referring to luxury or high street brands because it is still leading the pack where wristlets are concerned. The lemon-coloured leather that peeks out from the perforated bits at the bottom is great for anyone who would like to try out the colour-blocking trend. Priced at RM600, this particular Legacy wristlet is actually part of the limited edition Valentine’s Day collection.
So what will it be – Burberry’s convertible wristlet-cum-clutch or Coach’s subtle colour-blocked Legacy wristlet for you?
