The Making Of Dior’s Embroidered Book Tote
You’ve probably seen this embroidered tote with the friendship bracelet-esque motif come down the Dior Spring/Summer 18 runway.
Inspired by Mexican crafts, this vibrantly-coloured tote, developed in the Maison’s design studio in Paris, utilises over 15 shades of green, orange, red, fuchsia, violet, and blue. This fully hand-embroidered tote takes a total of more than 32 hours to make, and over one million two hundred thousand stitches utilising 3 different kinds of embroidery stitches.
Made at a family-run atelier in Umbria, a.k.a. “Italy’s Green Heart”, here’s a look at the savoir-faire video, which gives us an insight to the meticulous painstaking work that goes into the making of this bag.
