Sneak Peek: Richard Quinn x Liberty London Bags

Back in September, Central St Martins graduate, Richard Quinn held his Spring/Summer 18 runway show during Day 2 of London Fashion Week at renowned English department store, Liberty. The store didn’t just serve as a venue; his collection also included 5 head-to-toe creations, which utilised Liberty London fabrics that were given the foil treatment. But, today, I’m not here to talk to ya’ll about the ready-to-wear, but a Richard Quinn x Liberty collection of bags, that will be dropping in-store, as well as online, this summer.

For this bags collaboration, Quinn reimagined the signature Liberty “Iphis” tote by “actually tak[ing] them completely apart [,] surface designed them and then put them back together.” Either patchwork with a mish-mash of multiple prints, or a singular print, all of the totes come with metallic leather handles or trims, with a “Liberty” patch front and centre. SLGs like wristlets and keyfobs-cum-bag charms, are also part of the collection.

While Quinn certainly did a great job of re-conceptualising the floral Liberty fabrics by giving it a foil makeover, thus giving it a more flashy and trashy, but still glamorous vibe (see pic above). The bags, however, albeit the metallic leather handles, still exuded that very English countryside-esque vibes, or what I usually refer to, as “the Laura Ashley effect”. And since I usually prefer digital floral prints or artsy-fartsy abstract and/or painterly type of floral prints, this Quinn x Liberty collection of bags aren’t really my thing. In fact, I find them quite *gasp*… granny-esque. #sorrynotsorry
