You’ve read my Runway Report and thoughts on Maria Grazia Chiuri’s second ready-to-wear collection for Dior right after the show on Friday, so today it’s going to just be about the bags!

Maria has also jumped onto the straps trend, and for FW17, its all about thick shoulder straps with the classic vintage Dior monogram, known as the Dior Oblique. What Maria does differently for this very familiar retro print is that she had cut the jacquard diagonally, so that the “Dior” motif appears smack in the middle, in a diagonal formation from start to end, and embellished with epaulettes of various sizes, and emblazoned with Christian Dior on the underside. The Lady Dior, too, is not exempt from the thick strap treatment. She also brings back the older “Christian Dior” engraved logo, coupled with a modern “C” and “D” on either side of the turnlock clasps for the crossbody bags. The JaDior, though still prominently displayed on some of the shoulder straps, now has a new variant – gone are the brass chainlink shoulder straps, and in its place, the same thicker strap, having dropped the “Ja” so now the bag just displays DIOR in big, bold gold lettering. The Dior Oblique, is once again used this season on the bags, especially on the new silhouettes this season: collection, a studded structured tote, and a box-like satchel, which definitely are more practical styles that match her militaristic theme of the FW17 collection, don’t you think?
