Anya Hindmarch certainly set the stage for what was to come, with a house illuminated by LED lights as the set for her Spring/Summer 18 show. Out came the models with bulbous and squishy looking leather bags, which closely resembled the different sorts of cushions you’d see on sofas. These were all complete with buttons and dimples so closely associated with Chesterfield sofas, and they came in supple, yet boxy square silhouettes, as well as a small elongated one (think bolster-shaped) that we commonly see on chaise lounges. And then there were also intricately pleated circular bags which almost looked like an origami flower, in various sizes including a wristlet version, reminiscent of an ottoman/pouffe. While she certainly nails the novelty factor, I’m not sure I’d want to be lugging around something that resembles a part of my sofa with me wherever I go, except maybe for that small bi-colour metallic ottoman-flower wristlet.

Quirky pieces aside, there were also totes with budgies and cats, which reminded me of my favourite Anya pieces when she first made her debut as a bag designer. These were the type of bags that made me take notice of the brand in the first place and fall in love with it because there were prints of virtually any cutesy domestic or farm animal, and birds that were printed on satin, from what was known as the now discontinued Blue Label bags. I must admit that I actually added quite a few of these to my collection. Could this perhaps be a sign that she may be bringing these back again? I stand hopeful.
