Bottega Veneta’s Maxi Cabat for Spring 2019
Bottega Veneta‘s Cabat has been an icon since it was introduced by the House’s previous Creative Director Tomas Maier, when he joined the brand in 2001. Fast forward to a new Creative Director Daniel Lee, and with this, comes a new version of the classic basket woven tote, the Maxi Cabat for his debut Spring 2019 collection.
While you may think Maxi is a reference to its size, well, not quite. Here, the “maxi” is a reference to a supersized intrecciato weave, utilising a total of twenty 4-centimetre wide nappa leather strips, which takes about 2 full working days to complete by hand from start to finish. These double-faced leather strips, known as fettucce, is what makes it so luxurious, both inside and out – turn the bag onto its reverse side, you’d notice that both sides are identical.

This unisex bag is available in 2 sizes, the Maxi Cabat in Nappa, and the smaller Maxi Cabat 30 in Nappa (with the “30” signifying its width in centimetres) which comes with a detachable shoulder strap. Whether you choose between the bi-colour options either with or without a band of smooth leather on top, or a tone-on-tone weave, these are totes unisex (heh, see what I did there?), especially the larger sized version. Oh and if you want something without the weave, a smooth matte calf version is available in neutrals such as Espresso, Camel, and Nero (Black), and if you’re feeling ultra-luxurious, how about the Maxi Cabat in soft crocodile?

Whichever your heart desires, these are totes unisex (heh, see what I did there?), especially the larger sized version, don’t you think? 😉
