#MFW: Prada Spring/Summer 19 Runway & Bags Report

Instead of walls, glass or wall panels that were decorated, the Prada Spring/Summer 19 show space at the newly opened Fondazione Prada was set up in the form of a large Pantone colour chart printed onto the entire floor, with the audience occupying the transparent cube-shaped seats that were made to fit each square on the chart.

The collection had an elegant, yet at the same time, sportswear kind of vibe, with an abundance of cycling shorts, babydoll dresses, plunging bodysuits with a black strip to strategically positioned to hold them up and to preserve the wearer’s modesty. This season, Miuccia replaced the “name tag” on shirts and outerwear from last season, with Prada’s triangular logo, and boxy double breasted blazers and outerwear offered a more relaxed fit. For evening, it was all about diaphanous black dresses and blouses, along with a mix of prints, including digital art, tie-dye, and embellishments that at first seem like large floral clusters, but upon closer inspection, seem to be replicating the tie-dye effect. My favourites definitely have to be the digital print skirts!! LOVE!

On the accessories front, it was all about the cushy and puffy looking headbands that came with or without studs, in various prints and materials, that accompanied every single look. And then there were the bags. Most prominent of all, was a new top handle shape that came with a saddle-shaped flap, and a smaller shoulder bag-cum-clutch, as well as a lager top handle version which sported a saddle-silhouette as well with a thick strip of leather that went through the top of the flap àla the  Plex Ribbon from SS17 and Cahier bags. The Frame bag, too made a comeback. Apart from that, ladylike silhouettes aside, the second half of the collection featured a serious Rockstar vibe with gold studs-covered bags. As much as I love studs though, I found this a tad too OTT for me. heh.
