Longchamp x Nendo Capsule Collection

Longchamp has collaborated with Tokyo-based design studio Nendo on a Capsule Collection consisting shape-shifting Le Pliage® bags. This certainly makes sense because the original foldaway Le Pliage® which made its debut back in 1993, was inspired by origami.

Founded by Oki Sato in 2002, Nendo’s philosophy is centred on creating “!” moments in everyday life. This means reshaping everyday objects to give them a refreshed look. The Longchamp x Nendo Capsule offers a third way of reimagining the Le Pliage® bags: as functional, storage objects which could easily double as modernist home decor.

The Capsule is made up a trio of these transformable bags. The first, with its removable, foldable stiffener, morphs into a cube, the second, also known as the cone, is a conical single-handle bag which can be either carried or hung from a hook or rail; and the third, is the circle, inspired by the traditional Japanese art of furoshiki folding cloths, which are still widely used today in Japan to carry objects, especially lunchboxes.

The cone and circle bags are available in 2 sizes, while the cube bag comes in 3 sizes – all of which come in a palette of 6 “coloured neutrals” including pale grey, dark blue, mustard and burgundy, with black or white trims. The cone back also comes in a Limited Edition version in black lambskin, which pays tribute to the classic Le Pliage® Cuir. Longchamp x Nendo Cube Bag

What I appreciated about nendo was their absolute respect for the codes of Le Pliage®. They wanted to retain the DNA of the original product – the nylon, the Russian leather, the flap and the foldability, but with an entirely new twist ~ Longchamp Creative Director Sophie Delafontaine ~

The Longchamp x Nendo Capsule is now available at Longchamp boutiques globally.
