Introducing: Gucci Zumi For Spring/Summer 19

Gucci‘s latest handbag from the Spring/Summer 19 collection, Gucci Zumi derives its name from the Los Angeles-based and experimental musician Zumi Rosow. Gucci Zumi is a union of two of the most historical House codes: the interlocking G logo, and the Horsebit hardware, which we have seen in many iterations throughout the years as prints on ready-to-wear, to details on bags and shoes. From its inception, right up to the Tom Ford, Frida Giannini eras, and now, the Alessandro Michele, the horsebit remains integral to Gucci’s DNA.

For the Gucci Zumi, Michele decided to add the interlocking Gs right at the centre of the Horsebit. He also chose the mixed metals approach for this detail, utilising both gold and silver-coloured metals replicated from a rare piece from the Gucci archives, for a more contemporary flavour.

Gucci Zumi Top Handle Black Elaphe

Gucci’s Zumi collection comprises several styles: a top-handle version, a shoulder bag, and a tote. Featuring double-lift lock closures at the top, the Zumi Top Handle comes in both smooth and grained leather, as well as exotic skins such as snakeskin (python and elaphe in black, neutral and red), ostrich (light brown, burnt orange and ivory), and crocodile (cocoa, dark green, and grey). Available in a small and medium size, this top handle style comes with a detachable and adjustable leather shoulder strap, with an interior zipped compartment, and pocket.

Gucci Zumi Shoulder Bag in Green Crocodile

The Zumi Shoulder Bag is another new shape that’s smaller, made available in either a small or mini size. Only available in smooth leather, the shoulder bags come with a detachable chain enriched by Marina chain details (Major LOVE!), and an adjustable and collapsible leather top handle, and a rear pocket. This would be the best day-to-night bag in the collection, because it easily converts to a clutch.

Gucci Zumi Tote Cocoa Crocodile

A new small Zumi Tote was inspired by a vintage Gucci bag dating back to the 1960s. Available exclusively in crocodile and lizard skins, the tote comes with a double sliding chain strap and an artfully designed interior which makes organising the contents of your bag, super easy.

Gucci Zumi Shoulder Bag Strawberry Print SS19

If you’re looking for something fun, the illustrated cartoon-esque strawberry print versions of the medium top handle bag and mini shoulder bag are SS19’s seasonal variations of the Zumi.

Personally, the Zumi Tote gets my vote, because, with the double sliding gold chain straps, it isn’t like any of the usual tote bag styles out there.
