Milan Fashion Week: Prada Spring/Summer 2011 Bags

Managed to catch the Prada S/S 2011 livestream, and boy was it a stripe-filled collection. Despite that, it didn’t give me the Cruise vibe, but instead, the stripes, mixed with floral motifs and striped sombreros on the models felt as if it was Tropical Rainforest meets Prison Chic – There was even a banana printed motif on the RTW, I kid you not.

All of the designer collections shown at Fashion Week thus far, small bags (in sling/crossbody style and clutches) seem to be dominating the runways, as spotted on the Prada runway as well, I believe this is the first time for the SS 2011 season that I’ve seen a bigger sized bag on the runway.
Striped canvas seems to be Miuccia’s choice in terms of materials, with some leather thrown into the mix. Judging from what I had seen on the runway, S/S 2011 also seems to be the season of the flap bag, or at least for Prada anyway.

The Verdict: As with the case of Fendi, I find myself in a similar situation with Prada. It’s been a long time since I’ve liked any of Prada’s runway bags, and this time around, I find myself warming up to Miuccia’s S/S 2011 collection. The leather covered pushlock closures is something I haven’t seen in quite a while. My favourites are the last 3 bags (above) yes, surprise surprise, the fuchsia pieces and the black and purple colourblocked crossbody bag.
However, although this collection is a vast improvement in comparison to bags from Prada’s past few seasons (well, in my opinion anyway), because of the stripes, this collection will have a very short-lived lifespan, ie. VERY seasonal.
My favourites are the last 3 bags (above) yes, surprise surprise, the fuchsia pieces and the black and purple colourblocked crossbody bag. Which are your faves?
