Love It or Hate It: JW Anderson’s Pierce Bag
Brit designer Jonathan Anderson (or, known more popularly as JW Anderson) has had his line of handbags for a while now, and his latest “Pierce” bag has me sitting on the fence. While I do like studs and grommets on my bags, I really don’t think I can deal with this cuff-like detail through the 2 circular cut-out bits on the flap. The more I look at this bag, the more it rubs me the other way, and I’ll tell you why. The lady-like structured silhouette on this shoulder bag and the piercing really don’t go together. Instead, it makes it seem as though the bag is having a sort of identity crisis because it’s undecided whether it wants to be feminine, or bada$$. But more importantly, and the thing that irks me the most about this bag, is that it reminds me of a bull with a piercing on its snout because the 2 circular bits certainly look like nostrils. In fact, this was the first thing that came to mind when I first laid eyes on the bag. Heh. It’s not that I have a problem with that gold piercing because I’d gladly wear it as a cuff or bangle, but on the bag, it’s hel-lo bull central!
