Introducing: Burberry’s Lola Bag

“Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl/With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there”. This was the first thing that came to mind when I met Lola, one of Burberry‘s latest bags for Autumn/Winter 2019.

While not at all as promiscuous as the Lola from Copacabana that Barry Manilow sang about (gosh, how do I know these things, given that the popular tune was something my parents are more familiar with), Burberry’s Lola is a slightly more youthful incarnation of the TB bag.

Unlike the TB bag, Lola is less structured. She comes with a checkered quilting, that’s reminiscent of tartan, that alternates between 4×4 cushy bits, and flat quilted panels, with a polished chunky chain shoulder strap that makes her kind of a badass. Made of quilted lambskin, Lola comes in 2 sizes (small and medium). Apart from its solid coloured versions, some of the more standout variations include a vibrant colour-blocked version (top pic) with red and tangerine in front, and dark green and beige at the back, or a graphic black-and-white version; “Horseferry” print, and even one with crystals going all round the bottom of the bag, which, from afar, looks more like studs.

Hm, perhaps we can dub Lola as the TB’s younger cousin that’s a little sportier, and a little funkier, a little more “extra”, and a whole lot squishier.
