Chanel’s “Mermaid” Le Boy Bags for SS18

With Karl Lagerfeld going with a waterfall theme for the Spring/Summer 18 collection during the runway show, it isn’t surprising that these Le Boy bags from the collection were nicknamed the “Mermaid”.  And, thanks to the iridescent “quilted” PVC shell on both versions, which resembles the scales on a mermaid’s tail, it isn’t hard to guess why it was given the moniker, either 😉

Well, I’ve always had a soft spot for this Boy and would definitely hands-down choose almost any Boy over a flap bag or any other Chanel bag for that matter, I have to say that I’m not really a fan of the iridescent PVC. Sure, the whole “unicorn craze” is totally on-trend right now, but I find the PVC just plain tacky. I understand that the use of this material is possibly necessary for it to have more of a glossy sheen to make the iridescent effect more obvious, but Chanel has done iridescent leathers and hardware before, and made it work too. What’s more, at RM19,450, for that much PVC on the surface, it really isn’t worth it … well, in my opinion at least. Seeing how crazy everyone is over these “Mermaid” Le Boy bags, I’m guessing that many of you may not totally agree with me on this, but the PVC really makes the bag seem el cheapo. #sorrynotsorry
